The Music Video Beyonce - 1750 Words

Narrative Perspective During the duration of the music video Beyoncà © makes numerous references to historical events. She uses these references as a way to illustrate the story and educate the morals behind them. For example, Beyoncà © purposely uses the sinking New Orleans police car to demonstrate the story behind the event. The narrator, Beyoncà ©, visually communicates the story of how Hurricane Katrina traumatically demolished the city of New Orleans. By laying on the sinking police car she is simply visually stating that police officers, during this dramatic event, were drowning the people of New Orleans, rather than aiding them in a desperate time of need. There does seem to be a casual relation between the people of New Orleans and the†¦show more content†¦The stative event is simply the negative and depressing emotions the people of New Orleans felt when the police officers murdered their own people. Beyoncà © also references Messy Mya in her music video. At the start of the video the first words we hear come from the voice of Messy Mya. He states, â€Å"[w]hat happened at the New Wil’ins . . . I’m back by popular demand† (Formation). This is a reference to the story behind the death of Anthony Bare, also known as Messy Mya. Here, Messy Mya, himself, is the narrator. He was a well-known YouTuber at the time and made comedic videos. Being a New Orleans native, he made one YouTube video explaining his thoughts on New Orleans. In November of 2010, Mya was shot and murdered after leaving his girlfriends’ baby shower. The image of his dead body went viral and that’s how the news of his death spread. Jason Hamilton, Mya’s murderer, was arrested a week after the crime was committed. Three years later in August of 2013, he was released when new evidence emerged that he wasn’t at the crime scene. That’s when another man came out and confessed he was the one who killed Mya (Freund). His voice returning in the clip symbolizes how we never found out what truly happened to Messy Mya. His death was caused by human action, which coincides with Beyoncà ©Ã¢â‚¬â„¢s message in her video. The miracle Nora hopes for â€Å"in terror and hope† is for her husband to change and accept responsibility. But Torvald’s initial reaction towards her sacrifice is panic, then incomprehension. This makes Nora realize that she is only a doll dependent on man. The miracle she has always been waiting for never comes. However, I think the fact that Nora decides to leave and live independently itself is a miracle in that†¦show more content†¦Unfortunately, the ‘miracle’ never occurs. It is extremely ironical that Torvald reacts exactly the opposite to what Nora wished, and his reaction is devastating for her. She finally realizes that she is no more than a ‘squirrel’, ‘little songbird’ and ‘little lark’ to Torvald. And she has always been a doll confined to home who remains dependent on an autonomous man. Their home has been n othing but a playroom, where she plays the character of a doll-wife. Nora’s hopes for the future of the marriage no longer exist, and there is no reason for her to stay with Torvald any more unless the ‘miracle of miracles’ happens. 2.2 Why in â€Å"terror and hope†? The ‘miracle’ has always been a significant factor for Nora. When she first mentions it to Mrs. Linde, she calls it â€Å"awful† and exclaims that â€Å"it must not take place, not for anything in the world† (Act Two). However, she still refers to it as a ‘miracle’, which shows that despite her reluctance, she still expects it to happen and it is obvious that the ‘miracle’ represents Nora’s hope. To Nora, this hope is like a bubble, beautiful but unrealistic. It has been the power of her life, which supports her to overlook all the misfortunes and stay positive and vigorous. For eight long years, Nora keeps the secret about the debt to herself and shoulders all the pressure on her own. Her family life has been seemingly simple and carefree, but the truth isShow MoreRelatedThe Battle Of Desdemona And Nora Helmer2503 Words   |  11 Pagesthroughout the two plays. Morality of specific actions Free Essays

It is not a secret that everyone can make mistake and there is no person who has never made mistake throughout the life. But what mistake and what sequences and problems it can lead to – it is another question? For instance, when in 1986 the specialists responsible for the Chernobyl Nuclear Power plant lacked a ‘safety culture’ resulting in an inability to remedy design weaknesses despite being known about before the accident – they made mistakes (Causes of the Chernobyl Accident 1). Afterwards, those mistakes led to the global disaster. We will write a custom essay sample on Morality of specific actions or any similar topic only for you Order Now The chain reaction in the reactor became out of control creating explosions. High radiation level took place in the surrounding 20-mile radius and more than 30 people were killed immediately and about 135,000 were evacuated. In general, the result of the mistakes was 2,500 deaths (Health and Physiological   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Consequences 1). Actually, it is very difficult to evaluate the damage and consequences of the Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster. Thus, evaluating the specific actions of the specialists in this case, we can say that off course their mistakes were inadmissible and these people had to be hold to higher standards of legal responsibility and their actions had to be considered as a crime. As to the advantages of the given position it should be pointed out that higher standards of legal accountability and responsibility make people understand the importance of their specific actions and problems, which can be caused, as a result of their mistakes. Such punishment will help to avoid repeating the similar accidents in the future. On the other hand, the given position has also its disadvantages. For instance, if higher standards of legal responsibility take place a doctor will think twice before to start a difficult operation. However, sometimes a doctor has to make an urgent decision and has almost no time to take into consideration all factors and threads, as a result of which a patient can die. In this case, a doctor has to think about a patient and try the best to safe his life, but not about higher standards. So, coming to the conclusion it should be emphasized that higher standards of legal responsibility have to take place, but also they have to take into account all possible circumstances, which may occur in the future. Jason Medea free essay sample

How do Jasons feelings at the end of the play differ from those revealed in other encounters? In their first encounter, Jason appears to be trying to make himself feel as if he is better than Medea, and as if he is the bigger person than she, mfou no doubt hate me: but I could never bear ill-will to you implies that he is a better person for helping her even though she hates him and that even after all thats happened and all she has said he still could never bear ill-will. He continues to try and defend his actions, claiming it was for social status, that he didnt marry for love, but for the fact hat he wants to know they will have a good life and not be poor; also, as he marries the Kings daughter, his sons with Medea will be half-brothers to any children Jason may have with Glauce, therefore improving their status on becoming a king of Corinth. We will write a custom essay sample on Jason Medea or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Their second encounter is after Medea has decided her exact plan; she knows how she will kill the princess and the king, and has then also planned to kill her sons. She asks for Jason to attend, and he does, at which point she acts like a stereotypical wife of the time, admitting that she was wrong for all the feelings she had, and that verything that had happened was her fault, that she overreacted because she knew Jason was only doing it for the good of their family. It would seem to be a friendly conversation on Jasons part, he shows no kind of hostility towards Medea when she speaks to him, and openly accepts her apology, and states when he first speaks to her that he is ready to listen. However, later in this meeting he, again, demeens women, Only naturally a woman is angry when her husband marries a second wife. perhaps this is true in a sense, however I think anyone would be angry if their significant ther decided to marry someone else; not Just a woman. After this it could be said that Medea plays up to this, as when he mentions his sons growing up and being strong, she weeps. This may be because she knows her sons will never go, or she believes crying will make Jason pity her. In this encounter he also mentions sexual jealousy, implying that Medea is simply angry because of the fact that Jason is now sleeping with someone else, rather than her this is because he doesnt understand her anger, and therefore infers that it is because of this, rather than the fact that he eft her to marry another. Later in this passage, he also refers to Medea as a foolish woman when she tries to send the Coronet and dress to Glauce, and this theme of sexism is carried out a few lines later If my wife values me at all she will yield to me more than to costly presents, I am sure of that; again, the attitude of the ancient Greek time was that women were to do what they were told, rather than what they wanted. They were to be obedient, and not break any rules. In the third and final encounter, at the end of the play, it appears Jason has reached is peripeteia, his downfall. Medea, at this point, has killed their two sons and it is clear he loses complete control of his emotions, and he begins wildly insulting Medea, calling ner an abomination. It is also earlier in this pa rt that ne calls ner the woman I will kill. at the beginning of the play, he was supposedly in love with her, whilst at the end, he wants nothing more than her to be dead. It becomes obvious that Jason has realised what Medea is truly like, how manipulative and cunning she is; and how she tricked him, in certain parts, at least, into believing she as Just an obedient wife to him. He claims he wants the gods to blast her life, and during the time in which most, if not all, people believed that these gods were real and had impact on their lives, this would be one of the worst things to wish upon someone else. Again, Jason also mentions her sexual Jealousy, blaming this for the murder of their children out of mere sexual Jealousy, you murder them! At the complete end of the play, Jason is on the ground, whilst Medea is in a chariot (pulled by dragons) on the roof; this could be a representation of the fact that, in the eginning, Jason was of a higher standing than Medea, however at the end she had gotten (in a sense) what she wanted, and that she was now on top her enemies not able to laugh at her. He asks Medea to let him bury the children, a request which she declines, so he then asks if he could hold them one last time. She responds with now you have kisses for them, as previously Jason had appeared to be more than happy to let his sons be exiled even if he did state in previous encounters that he had married the princess not for Just his social standing, but also his sons.

Greenland versus Iceland Essays

Greenland versus Iceland Essays Greenland versus Iceland Essay Greenland versus Iceland Essay Greenland versus Iceland Name: Course: Instructor: : Institution: Date: Greenland versus Iceland Iceland is considered among the most developed and wealthiest countries in the world. It operates on a free market economy, whereby its taxes are lower compared to other OECD countries. It was listed the fourteenth most developed nations in the world, in 2011. Greenland is located within Denmark. It is the largest island in the world and least dense populated country in the world. The country’s economy depends on its home country, Denmark. The Inuit society of Iceland survived due to adaptive measures that have ensured its sustainability. One of the ways that this is achieved is by controlling the population growth. Their main activities included whaling and trading with other communities. Their survival skill in adapting to the environment is flexibility. When a resource becomes unavailable, they turn to another one for survival. Iceland relies a hundred percent on energy from renewable resources, whereby seventy percent made from hydropower and thirty percent geothermal power. The main supplier Landsvirkjun is the owner of hydropower plants. The ability of the country to produce renewable energy relies on its geology. Iceland lies on the Mid-Atlantic ridge. There are six hundred hot springs, two hundred volcanoes in the country and twenty steam fields of high temperature that are lowest at 1500c. Waterfalls and rivers in the country on the other hand produce hydropower. Greenland on the other hand relies on biomass as its source of energy. Biomass is divided into three categories, which are solid, fluid and gas. There are plants for burning waste in six cities in Greenland. There are threes types of theoretical potential, namely, the economical potential and the technological potential. The economic potential technically lasts for twenty years, with heat production paid back after twelve and a half years and heat and power production after 5 years. Before there was any human, activity in Iceland, there were birch forests, colonies of sea birds and a lot of green grass. When man invaded the land, the grassland was destroyed by the European crops and domestic animals that man had introduced into the land. Deforestation on the other hand enhanced soil erosion, as the soil was exposed to water and wind. This has led to the destruction of ninety percent of the forests of Iceland and forty percent of the soil. The soil erosion, today, has destroyed Seventy-three percent of the land surface. The population in Greenland is affecting its environment through oil spillages. In 1980, millions of tons of oil were estimated to go into the ocean every year. The main sources of these spillages are sewage outfalls, tanker operations, atmospheric outfall and urban runoff. Accidental spills present a threat to the environment, because they are of high concentration. Oil degradation in the Arctic would be slow, since the temperatures are low. Further more, since the infrastructure is not good and the climatic conditions are harsh, clean up would be hard. A more adverse effect would be if the oil spilled on ice in the ocean. The oil would concentrate on the ice edges where most animals and birds would bid up during migration. Oil is a toxic substance to organisms. Its effects would depend on the oil composition and the organism that has been affected. Climate change can be caused or cause biodiversity change. Climate change is one of the most important factors that determine change in species distribution in an ecosystem. Change in the climate is also affected by human activities, which produce greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide. Another effect of climate change is the change in the required concentration of carbon in marine and terrestrial systems. The change in biodiversity on the other hand affects the circulation of the benefits that species acquire from ecosystems. The benefits consist of regulating services such as managing variability in pathogens and pests and cultural services such as recreation. Biodiversity supports such ecosystem services as climate regulation. For example, converting forests into agricultural production increases carbon emissions. This in turn affects the climate by increasing its rate of change. Human activities that lead to the emission of greenhouse gases greatly cause climatic changes, which in turn affect biodiversity. The Vikings migrated from Iceland and arrived in Greenland in 980 A.D. it settled in farming communities. They related with their European communities through trade. However, this community eventually collapsed due to a number of reasons. The reasons why the Viking society in Greenland collapsed were; first, they had hostile relationships with their neighbors. They were in war with the Skraelings, who captured and killed some of their people. Secondly, they had lost support from their native homes and their trade partners. In the event, when half of the population in Norway was killed, it caused economic and political instability, such that no trade ships could be sent. The Inuit owned larger weapons, dogs and other equipments that enabled them protect themselves from other communities, such as the Dorset. They made trade with various culture and societies, which hence ensured their survival. When they could not survive the climates in the regions they had settled, they moved into friendlier regions. The Inuit society also had a greater population as compared to the Vikings, which probably led to their survival. In conclusion, species are eliminated from a setting through natural selection. In this, the strongest species or the most adoptable survive. The Viking society collapsed because they were a weaker group than the surrounding communities were. They also had weaker survival skills. In the present world, species survive depending on their ability to adapt to the existing climates and conditions of their surrounding environment. Clinical Biochemistry- Case Study Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Clinical Biochemistry- Case Study - Essay Example The result of short ACTH stimulation test and random serum cortisol levels confirm this suspicion. Upon doing a CT scan, adrenal glands are small, atrophic, and calcified. The damage may have been caused by an autoimmune disease or secondary to diseases such as Histoplasma, Coccidiodes, Tuberculosis infections, metastases, lymphomas, hemorrhage, amyloid, sarcoid, and hemochromatosis, to which the patient is currently suffering or has already been freed from. To see whether the adrenal gland disorder is autogenic, presence of adrenocortical autoantibodies is assayed. None were detected. When thorax of the patient underwent CT scan, both lungs are fibrous, and the right apex has calcifications. The fibrotic scars and the calcified right apex cavity are indications of a previous Tuberculosis infection. Because no respiratory problems were identified, the infection has already been resolved. Because Tuberculosis is common in Third World countries, and was still one of the leading causes of mortality during the 1950s, the patient may have been infected during her stay at Kenya when sh e worked as a missionary. Four months prior to consult, the patient felt similar symptoms, and was then found to be hyponatremic, hyperkalemic and hypoglycaemic. No further tests were reported to have been performed at that time. Plan: Therapy involves hormonal replacement. Oral corticosteroids such as Fludrocortisones (Florinef) to replace aldosterone, and Hydrocortisone (Cortef), prednisone, and cortisone acetate to replace cortisol may be provided. Corticosteroid injections may also be an option, especially during Addisonian crisis, when blood pressure drops together with a decrease in blood sugar and an increase in serum potassium levels. Unlike Cushing’s syndrome, which involves an increase in the levels of adrenal gland hormones, Addison’s disease is an illness in which the adrenal glands are damages, thereby decreasing

Globalization & Multinational Corporation Term Paper

Globalization & Multinational Corporation - Term Paper Example In the first paper, for instance, the author looks deep into the key features that characterized both the Industrial Revolution and the Great Divergence. The author considers the divergence that occurred in the 19th century. By constructing a trade/growth model. The paper compares the trade styles, technology and industrial growth between the north and south regions in this era of divergence. The second paper on the other hand significantly presents a multi-country theory of economic growth. This growth is related to how different countries are connected in terms of trade and exchanges. Since the stated growth is directly related to the human practice and knowledge accumulation, the paper revisits The Great divergence in relation to how specific countries connect to the rest of the world and how these networks contributed to the phenomenon. The third paper is rather specific, focusing on the issue of transportation cost as a factor that affected The Great Divergence. The paper focuses directly on the effects of transportation cost in different trade sectors. In an inquiry fashion, the paper specifically addresses how the reduction in transportation costs of industrial goods. The paper recognizes that such a reduction is related to an enhanced convergence of economic growth rates. The papers relate directly to the issues affecting economic growth in many countries in the world. Currently, economic growth is directly related to trade and the costs of movement. In addition, these costs and trade depends on the connections and the networks that exist between the specific country and the rest of the world. Globalization and multinational corporations are a direct expression of this network. Since this is a current issue in business, the papers therefore bring out an interesting relationship between The Great Divergence and the current status of economy and globalization. My motivation for choosing the papers is therefore

Privatization in developing countries Assignment

Privatization in developing countries - Assignment Example They start to register losses and the management fails at delivering their goals (Gianaris 57). Each of the management cycle and rules comes with certain advantages and disadvantages; likewise the concept of privatization also comes with certain advantages and disadvantages. If we look at the pros we would conclude that privatization places its operations in the ownership of private enterprise, these are more responsive to customer services because they deal with great competition in the industry and they have to perform well to gain market share. The Government cannot take undue advantage of the industry and they are not bound to perform under limitations. Privatization also provides a one off boost of cash flows to the government and the same money can be invested in other projects or to meet short term liabilities. Privatization of the industry loses its monopoly and that is why the same product could be sold at a much competitive price with enough supply to meet the demand. Another advantage of the concept is it leads to innovation in the product and other features that le ads to a better understanding of the customer needs and requirements Few of the disadvantages that are related to privatization are the cost of transaction is too high, the public monopolies are now private monopolies and the competition is still less in few of the industries, Government privatizes its industries because they are short of cash flows or are high on debt and for that reason they sell their industries for a much cheaper cost and value than it would have been sold under normal circumstances, the private business closes down the operations which are performing well and so a lot of jobs are lost and sections are closed and the investment goes in the hand of few even though it is sold to a huge majority. Margaret Thatcher was one of those people who introduced

A Property Valuation Report Commerce Essay

A Property Valuation Report Commerce Essay Introduction In recent years, the real estate market becomes a focal point. Property value may change by the influence of the government, social, economic and environmental forces. Demographys report shows Australian home prices to be little increased in 2011, driven by the slow pace of construction approvals, strong immigration, and an economy that hasnt experienced a recession in nearly two decades. (Business day, 2011)These forces will affect the real estate markets up or down. This task focuses on the property inspection and valuation and specifically discusses a valuation of Burwood Vic. After that, the market valuation approach is undertaken and five recently comparable sales within the local area are provided, with the valuation and details of each house being discussed. There are some opinions and discuses shown by references, graphs, images and R Pdata website finding. Current state of the residential market 1In recent years Melbourne real estate market is more active, with the house price gradually rising in the trend. And key fundamentals are in high demand, which is created by population growth in the city of Melbourne. There is a serious supply and demand imbalance in the Australian residential property market. Melbourne has major problems in meeting demand for new housing and is not building enough apartments and houses currently .Different regions in the Melbourne have different prices. According to Residex, houses grew by 14.3% and units by 12.3% in 2010. And Melbourne is now the second highest priced median housing market in the country behind Sydney. Besides, interest rate rise in 2010, which was influence by the Australian economy, grew well above its trend rate at 0.9% for 2009. (Iron fish, 2010) This incredible result, along with solid employment figures and buoyant business and consumer confidence have all but guaranteed the return of interest rates to a normal level by the end of the year .( Iron fish,2010). On the other hand, the secondhand room trade in Melbourne is very active, with about 65% people in Melbourne renting the private house. The RP Date shows that rent houses price is increasing 35% in the last 3 years. This is why the more investors see the high return in the property and choose to invest in real estate. At present, the May 2010 median house price is at $250,000 while unit prices average $280,000 (Domain, 2010). Between May 2002 and 2010 the Burwood property market has increased annually on average by 12%, however with the rise of interest rates on mortgage repayments, according to the Real Estate Institute of Victoria, the suburban market is likely to ease as housing becomes less affordable (REIV, 2010). In terms of the local suburban market with reference to the housing market, the property price in Burwoods long term trend is increase for house and units. The median price for house in year 2010 is increasing, but the price for units is going down. Valentine, by Ann Duffy and First Love by John Clare :: English Literature

Valentine is by Ann Duffy. The first thing that caught my attention was the title â€Å"Valentine†. Usually when you would hear that word your head would be thinking hearts, love, romance, and choclates etc but not in this case. In this poem it describes love as an onion and this is the constant imagery. The poets aim was to use the onion as a symbol of love rather than the everyday, typical gifts. I think the poem might have been written by a male but adapted by a female poet. My reason for saying this is mainly because when you read the poem it sounds as though it’s a male word because it talks about giving gifts which is normally from the man. Never the less it has more deep and emotional feelings in it which makes it sound like a female words. However we will never know for sure. The language that the poet uses whether it’s a male or a female is very powerful and strong because even if don’t enjoy the poem you would still remember parts of it because its so blunt and straight to the point .The poem also uses at some point simile and metaphors which also makes it very affective. In this poem it also constantly compares love to an onion. It uses the same words that can describe love as well as an onion , doesn’t really use sweet and fragile words or phrases that you would normally expect in a love poem but in my opinion having a bit of a change is always a good thing. â€Å"Blind you with tears† The word blind and tears show the nature of love and how love can hurt which leaves you heartbroken and in rivers of tears. However in cooking wise the onion would blind you and make you cry when you cut it, so the poet bought these two things together and joined them up to make his or her point more interesting for the reader. The language makes me feel very moved at some points because its very emotional and descriptive .My favourite verse was the last one because it uses strong words but with passion and a deep full meaning. â€Å"Lethal† Its scent will cling to your fingers, Cling to your knife Lethal means dangerous and I think this would describe love best because in reality love is romantic however if you don’t play it right and don’t abide by the rules then it could turn into a very nasty game. This is why love shouldn’t be messed about in the first place as it not a game in real life it could mess a persons life forever.
